Consistency and Taking Action: The Key We’ve Been Looking For 🗝
How small steps and showing up daily can transform your goals into reality.
Nine months ago, I created an account on Kaggle, fueled by excitement and lofty goals for my Data Science journey. But life happened, and like many of us, I lost momentum. For nine whole months, I remained a Novice, barely engaging with the platform, my ambition gathering dust.
A few days ago, I decided to change that. I made a simple commitment to show up consistently. It has just been four days of me being consistent on Kaggle—creating notebooks, working on datasets, joining discussions, and even participating in competitions. The result? I’ve been promoted to a Contributor in all categories and earned 13 badges.
I know it’s not a massive achievement, but to me, it’s a milestone worth celebrating. It’s a proof that small, consistent actions lead to results. It has also sparked a new goal for me to achieve and that is to become a Kaggle Grandmaster one day. And hopefully sooner. No harm in being optimistic, right? (It’s a different thing I am being like that publicly, but who cares. I don’t.)
This small win reminded me of something we all know but often forget or train ourselves not to act on: Consistency and Taking Action.
Why Consistency is the Real Superpower?
We often overestimate the value of one-time efforts and underestimate the power of showing up every day. Atleast I have. I still believe, studying one night before exams will grab me a decent score and no kidding I have a CGPA of 3.26/4 as of now, which is indeed pretty decent. But that won’t help me build skills/ gain knowledge.
Consistency isn’t about big, dramatic leaps—it’s about small, intentional steps that compound over time.
Think of it like planting a garden. You water the soil daily, even though you don’t see much happening at first. But beneath the surface, something is growing. One day, seemingly out of nowhere, you see the fruits of your labor. That’s the magic of consistency.
Consistency also creates momentum. The more you show up, the easier it becomes to keep showing up. You develop confidence, refine your skills, and turn intimidating tasks into second nature. Over time, these small wins stack up into something remarkable.
Action: The Catalyst for Growth.
While consistency keeps the wheel turning, action is the initial push that gets it moving. And let’s be real—starting is often the hardest part.
How many times have you waited for the “perfect moment” to begin something? Or have thought to yourself “I’ll start working on it from next week.”, then weeks pass. And it turns into next month, then next year and the cycle repeats. Whether it’s starting a project, learning a skill, or making a lifestyle change, we tell ourselves we need more time, more preparation, more confidence. But the truth is, the perfect moment doesn’t exist.
Growth doesn’t come from waiting; it comes from doing. Taking action, even when you feel unprepared or imperfect, is what turns ideas into results. The best part? Action creates its own momentum. Once you start, you realize it wasn’t as hard as you imagined.
For me, just deciding to log into Kaggle and start somewhere—even if it wasn’t groundbreaking—was enough to rekindle my passion. The progress I’ve made in a few days feels more rewarding than months of overthinking ever could.
A Simple Call to Action
Whatever your goal is—learning a new skill, building a habit, or pursuing a passion—remember this:
Consistency makes it sustainable.
Action makes it real.
Don’t wait for the stars to align. Start small, start messy, but just start. Stay consistent, even when progress feels slow. The results will come, and when they do, you’ll look back and realize how far you’ve come.
Let’s Take the First Step Together
I’m sharing this not just to celebrate my progress but to encourage you to take the first step toward yours. (And also for me to look back, and read this again everytime I feel that I’m losing my momentum or maybe when I’m just confused.) Celebrate your small wins, no matter how insignificant they may seem. They are the foundation of something bigger.
Let’s stay consistent. Let’s keep taking action. The rest will follow.
What’s one small action you can take today to move closer to your goal? Let’s talk about it in the comments—I’d love to hear from you! <3
I used to be in the same situation—always learning and planning but never taking action. Without action, there are no results.
I finally decided to join Substack and start writing because I enjoy it, but procrastination often held me back, even from writing once a week.
Small wins build up to bigger achievements. Staying consistent and taking action is the key. Thanks for sharing this motivation
